Steve Simmonds

Steve Simmonds is a professional actor, musician and songwriter from East London/Essex in the UK.  

Always surrounded by live music at a young age, Steve spent a lot of his childhood watching and performing in bands and other various concerts. His main influences growing up were Iron Maiden, Queen, Michael Jackson, Extreme, Mr Big and other rock bands of the 80’s and 90’s. Alice Cooper was also a big influence due to the nature of mixing live rock with theatre, a convention which was later written about in his dissertation for his degree in a Bachelor of Arts for actor musicianship. Coming from a folk like background Steve was also heavily influenced by British folk bands like Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention and later on Bellowhead. 

His first experience of performing was as an 11 year old at the world famous London Palladium in Lionel Bart’s ‘Oliver!’, performing over 100 shows. It was this experience that first gave Steve the bug for performing. 

Steve’s first band was called Martial Law, which he and his brother founded in the early 90’s, gigging around London and Essex for a few years before the band went their separate ways. It was in this band where Steve first started song writing. 

Steve actually learnt music as a trumpet player before he then found his true love, the guitar.  He is now a professional actor musician, playing guitar, bass, drums and trumpet in many different actor musician shows, including a version of the Olivier award winning best musical, ’Return To The Forbidden Planet’.  Steve has performed in over 60 productions as an actor musician on tours domestically, internationally and including three shows in London’s West End. 

Steve has only recently got back into music production and song writing. He very much enjoys recording tracks for projects and is thrilled to have his first song  ‘It’s Christmas Time Tonight’, sung by the ever brilliant Georgina White, released by Creative and Dreams (played by BBC Introducing). With other projects ‘in the can’, Steve is looking forward to more exciting releases and continuing his artistic partnership and creative journey with Creative and Dreams!
